Wondering how to sew a welt pocket opening?
If you don't know what a welt pocket is, it's a pocket on a vest or coat with a single strip of matching fabric. Of course, you can actually put it on any garmet you want to.
Another Definition: An inset pocket with the lower lip finished by an upstanding welt that may be from 3/8” to 1” wide. It can have one or two lips finishing the opening edges. Used mostly in classic wear. Usually found as the chest pocket of a jacket or a coat.
Context: In traditional men’s wear tailoring, the welt pocket is used only as a breast pocket, but in women’s wear it may be used anywhere and inserted at any angle.
